This time of year it’s fairly windy in Northern Europe. I’ve got some nice training sessions in already, but I’m still looking for that one windy day to break record. In the meantime I try to train as much as possible on the water to keep progressing in lighter winds and of course to be ready for the real record-breaking conditions
On Friday I had a nice session in Büsum, no records but good training and good fun! Maxed out at 42,7 kts/ 79 kmh with a really broad angle. I also used my new GoPro Hero 6 for the first time for this video, and what I particularly like is the improved electronic image stabilization and the GPS-overlay. I will write a little review about how well the new GoPro works for windsurfing in the next days
I love filming my windsurf-sessions. It’s good fun to review your sessions and to share the best moments with your friends or the internet if you like. I personally have used a GoPro Hero 3+ Silver and a GoPro Hero 6 Black and I’m really happy with the cameras for my purposes. In this article I’d like to give some tips and tricks on how to set your GoPro for windsurfing so you’ll get the best footage out of it.
In this article I want to talk a bit about the best stance on the board for speedwindsurfing. You need to try to get the maximum effieciency out of your gear while still keeping control over your gear to go really fast.
Last weekend I made a spontaneous choice to drive dwown to La Franqui for a 4 day weekend. I was eager to test my new board and new fins and the forecast looked really solid for some good speedsurfing days. Here is a little recap:
On Saturday we had another good speedday with the Steinhuder crew. The forecast looked pretty great with a steady 19kts gusting up to 35kts eventually. Unfortunately the wind was accompanied by a lot of rain. Rain in combination with SW wind is usually not good at Steinhude, and as a matter of fact the wind never reached 35kts. On top of that the water level is very high at the moment because we’ve had a lot of rain in the last weeks. Usually it’s around 110cm, on Saturday we had 124cm. This makes the water more choppy.
It’s been a couple of busy weeks for me with quite some windsurfing over the summer, but now I finally found some time to review some of my highlights this summer. Firstly I managed to achieve one of my goals I’ve had for quite some time now; to go 40 knots on a slalomboard.
This summer I have spent some really nice days windsurfing in Holland. One spot in particular has proven to be a nice location in summer: De Houw
